The Alchemical Doorway of Lalana

- Lalana Chakra is a chalice waiting to be filled with amrita.
- It is one of the secret chakras because it is not part in the new-age rainbow system.
- It is described as a chakra with 12 red petals.
- Its location is between Vishuddha and Bindhu Visaraga chakra, just above the soft palate of the throat
- It can be activated in meditation by gently pressing the tongue on the soft palate at the back of the throat.
- It has a very important purpose. When Sahasrara Chakra is activated, amrita is made in the bindu Visarga and stored in Lalana.
Amrita is a divine, spiritual nectar, also known as ambrosia, that nourishes the higher consciousness. Bindu Visarga is a subtle energy centre associated with consciousness and the manifestation of creation. It is located at the back of the head where most people have a cowlick. It is a metaphysical doorway to higher consciousness and the source of divine nectar that nourishes the body.
When the Bindu Visarga is active, this nectar flows down to the Lalana Chakra. The amrita then flows down through the throat Chakra. If Vishuddha chakra is purified, it acts as a sacred channel allowing the purified nectar to continue its journey, nourishing the spirit and filling the practitioner with bliss. The divine nectar transforms and moves back upwards to ajna chakra and Sahasrara chakra, sending the kundalini energy back upwards to unite with Shiva. This pure stream of nectar cleanses the body and mind of all impurities, dissolving dualities and freeing the consciousness to merge with the Supreme Cosmic Spirit.
If the amrita drips down and the chakras haven’t been purified, it is burned up in the fire of Manipura and keeps the individual in Maya, unable to realize their spiritual potential and continue the journey of birth old age sickness and death, through lifetimes.
It is the fork in the road because is is where the amrita coming from the bindu is divided into either good or bad experiences in life. When Vishuddha and Lalana are inactive, life can be painful or on the level of suffering, when they are awakened, the nectar remains as bliss, life becomes full of joy.

- Santosha (संतोष): Contentment, satisfaction
- Aparadha (अपराध): Offense, transgression, fault

- Anutapa (अनुताप): Regret, repentance, remorse
- Apakarana (अपकरण): Malice, injury, harming others
It’s a center that deals with the initial processing of emotions and desires before they are expressed through the Vishuddha or refined by higher centers.
How to Activate Lalana Chakra
One of the best ways to activate Bindu Visarga and Lalana chakra is Viparita Karani of legs up the wall posture, otherwise known as The Fountain of Youth, while lifting the head slightly off the floor.
Kachari is an extreme way of stretching and cutting the tongue until it can reach back and block the nasal cavity at the back of the throat.
Nabuho mudra is much less extreme and effective way to active the amrita in lalana. Also known as the “Sky Seal” or “Yogic Tongue Lock,” it is a simple yoga practice where the tongue is rolled backward, pressing its upper surface against the roof of the mouth. This helps to calm the mind and promote energy flow.

There are nine physical doors known as indriyas—the senses of perception and action. They are the channels through which prana (life energy) enters and exits the body, constantly connecting us to the physical realm and its dualities. These doors are essential for our embodied existence, but they also bind us to the cycle of suffering, aging, and death. The nine physical door are 2 eyes, 2 nostrils, 2 ears, a mouth, an anus, and the genitals. They are the sensory gateways for our interaction with the external world, The physical doors take one to an existence in an ordinary and worldly life of the senses. The goal of a yogi is to bring the mind and senses under control.
The Lalana Chakra, on the other hand, functions as a door to a different kind of reality. It’s a point of transcendence, that changes physical perception to spiritual perception. Here, in this hidden pool at the roof of the mouth, the amrita is held and purified. The stream of amrita holds the promise of immortality and liberation. It transforms ordinary life force into a refined spiritual experience where one sees the truth of reality in all phenomenon.
Vishuddha Chakra acts as a sacred channel as this pure stream cleanses the body and mind of all impurities, dissolving dualities and freeing the consciousness to merge with the Supreme Cosmic Spirit.
When its energy is properly regulated and guided by an open Vishuddha Chakra, it purifies the amrita and frees the practitioner from the cycle of suffering. This journey is a turning inward, away from the constant flow of external stimuli that enter through the nine doors of sense perception.
Therefore, while the nine doors serve as the physical entry and exit points for prana, the Lalana Chakra can be seen as the tenth, a spiritual doorway. It is the gateway to the “void where the mind dissolves into pure stillness,” transcending the limitations of the body and the senses that are so deeply connected to the other nine doors. This makes it a crucial point for anyone on the path of self-realization and spiritual awakening.
