The Centre of Inner Vision and Intuition

The Ajna means “command” or “perception” and is known as the Third Eye. It is the sixth of the seven major chakras.

In New Age philosophy, it is a profound energetic centre that acts as the bridge between the material world and the subtle, spiritual world. The element of light signifies clarity and illumination, while the mind is the governor of thought, memory, and imagination.

The way to open Ajna chakra is through meditation and visualization, focusing attention and visualizing a glowing indigo light in the centre of the forehead. Chanting the universal sound Om or AUM is believed to resonate with and awaken the energy of the chakra. Nadi Shodhana Pranayama (Alternate Nostril Breathing) will balance the two main energy channels (ida and pingala nadis), thereby harmonizing the left (logic) and right (intuition) hemispheres of the brain.

The Third or Inner Eye is considered as The Gateway to Enlightenment or The Realm of Higher Consciousness, the centre of inner perception and intuition. Our ideas, dreams, ambitions, goals, inner strength and self-image all develop from this Chakra. This chakra is associated with the colour Indigo and is connected to the Pineal or pituitary gland. This is a central concept in modern New Age teachings. The Pineal gland is often referred to as the physical counterpart of the Third Eye, believed to be the body’s spiritual antenna. Practices often focus on “decalcifying” this gland to enhance spiritual connection.

The state of the Ajna Chakra is said to directly affect one’s mental and spiritual life.

Those with a well-balanced brow chakra will have clarity of thought, strong intuition, emotional balance, sharp memory, and good visualization skills. The individual can make wise decisions, trust their inner voice, and is open to new ideas without losing touch with reality. They may also have telepathic abilities, charismatic personality and often do not fear of death. Intuition becomes the guide and teacher through life.

When the third Eye Chakra is weak, underactive or blocked, intuition becomes weak, leading to misery, disappointments, confusion, poor decision-making, lack of imagination, scepticism, rigid thinking, and an inability to trust intuition. There may be phobias, fear of the future and the unknown Refusal to see the truth. Mental instability. Physical symptoms may include frequent headaches, eye problems, and mental fog.

An overactive imagination, getting lost in fantasies or daydreams, preoccupation with psychic abilities without grounding, and difficulty separating delusion from reality. An overactive chakra can result in living in illusion, not focused in reality. They could become a religious zealot or use psychic energy to manipulate others. The person may become ungrounded or overly judgmental.

With a balanced Sixth Chakra, one can start to experience success by taking the right decisions and manifesting the innermost desires.

Gemstones associated with Ajna are Lapis Lazuli, Amethyst, Fluorite, Sodalite, Quartz, Sapphire, and Tanzanite. Placing a stone on the brow point during meditation is a method to amplify the chakra’s energy.

Healing Foods: Purple coloured fruits like grapes and blueberries, Chocolate, Lavender flavoured spices or tea. Useful herbs are Anise, Juniper, Lemon, Pine, and Jasmine

The primary concept of the Ajna Chakra is its role as the seat of intuition, wisdom, and inner vision. It is considered the “eye” that perceives truths that the two physical eyes cannot. It is our inner teacher, our internal guidance system, allowing an individual to receive direct knowledge and insight, rather than relying solely on external information or logic.

It provides perception beyond duality. When the chakra is balanced, it helps the individual to perceive reality without the distortion of the ego, attachments, or limiting beliefs. This heightened state of perception allows one to see the bigger picture and transcend duality (like good/bad, light/dark).

Activation of the Third Eye is often linked to the development of various psychic senses, including clairvoyance (clear seeing), precognition (foreknowledge), and the ability to perceive auras and energy fields.

The ultimate goal of working with the Ajna Chakra is to unite rational thought with inner wisdom, leading to a state of profound self-awareness and spiritual enlightenment.
